Council Member Judy Nelson is a Southern California native. She has a B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman's University and worked as an Occupational Therapist, specializing in pediatric rehabilitation, for 10 years. Judy and her husband, Byron, were married in 1968 and moved to Glendora in 1980 with their four small children. Judy was a stay-at-home mom until 1985 when their youngest children, twins, were in 2nd grade. At that time she opened Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop and, over the years, expanded it to encompass 3 independent book businesses which, along with the book store, include Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair Company (now managed by her daughter) and Mrs. Nelson's Library Services (now managed by her son).
In recent years, Judy has become increasingly concerned with the direction of our State and Federal government. She is passionate about the need for leaders who serve with integrity and a commitment to doing what is in the best interests of the citizens. And she advocates for citizens to become actively involved in selecting responsible representatives and providing oversight to ensure that they are doing the job they were elected to do.
Judy was elected to the 59th District Central Committee in 2010. Her responsibilities include voter registration, identifying and recruiting qualified candidates to run for public office and getting out the vote during elections.
Judy was elected to the Glendora City Council in 2011. She is an alternate delegate to the Independent Cities Association of Los Angeles County (ICA), the Three Valleys Municipal Water District, the San Gabriel Valley Water Association, the San Gabriel Valley Protective Association and the Glendora Community Coordinating Council. She has vowed to do all in her power to ensure that Glendora remains fiscally sound and prosperous, the Pride of the Foothills, now and into the future.
